Set in a quiet hamlet equidistant from the beautiful River Wye and the rugged walking country of The Black Mountains and Offa’s Dyke, Marises Barn lies in the heart of The Golden Valley. The Cathedral City of Hereford is 13 miles, the quaint book town of Hay-on-Wye is just over 10 miles and the market towns of Abergavenny, Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye are easy travelling distances away. The countryside has no shortage of attractions for walkers, riders, climbers and canoeists alike and the scenery of the Brecon Beacons is spectacular at all times of the year. Herefordshire offers gardens, country houses, castles, half-timbered villages, ancient culture and historic churches. The area is renowned for it's traditional fayre of cider and beef, and is increasingly making a name for its locally produced cheeses. It is also just over an hour's drive from the stylish centres of Cheltenham and Cardiff - there is something to cater for every taste, age and lifestyle.
Marises Barn was converted from a traditional Herefordshire stone barn into a comfortable family home just over 15 years ago. The garden has shaded courtyard areas and features many beautiful old rose bushes. The gardens lead down to an acre of paddock and orchard where traditional cider apple trees combine with eating apple, pear, plum and cherry trees.
We aim to provide our guests with a warm and friendly welcome, a comfortable stay and excellent meals. Our bread is home baked, and the produce we use is locally grown with eggs from our hens, herbs and vegetables from our garden and organic meat from a local farm. Evening meals are available with a little advance notice and our menu choices reflect the traditions of the region as well as more exotic flavours from other cultures. Dietary requirements can be catered for. If your choice is to eat out, then we can recommend several excellent pubs and restaurants within easy driving distance.
We can cater for horses in our paddock, cycles in our shed and we have a run and kennel for dogs (out of consideration for other guests with possible allergies we do not permit dogs in the guest bedrooms).
Marises Barn is open all year round and makes an ideal base for touring Herefordshire, the Forest of Dean, the Wye Valley and the Welsh Borders.
We regret that the property is not suitable for very young children.
Marises Barn is a non-smoking establishment. |
