Walking
From our front door you can access the extensive footpath network and walk all day long through wonderful scenery. We also have a set of 6 specially published circular walks of varying length and difficulty within the Golden Valley. These are laminated and available for loan. They feature an OS 1:50 000 map covering the area of the walk, a detailed description of each route and points of particular interest along the way. Don’t worry about your muddy boots when you get back, we can take them away and dry them off for you ready for tomorrow.

Canoeing
Canoe hire is available from a couple of local centres and this makes for a wonderfully enjoyable day out on the beautiful River Wye. There is no better way to see the local bird and wildlife at close quarters. The local centre will pick you up and bring you back to your starting point at the end of your paddling.

Riding
There are several trekking centres within a short drive and rides are available for beginners through to serious gallopers.  The views from the Brecon Beacons over Llangorse Lake are quite stunning as are the cheeky wild ponies that live on the top of the hills.

Cycling
If you haven’t brought your own bike then why not hire one. Again there are a number of centres in the region where this is possible, just for an afternoon or for a longer period.

Festivals
There are not many people now who have not heard of the Hay Literature Festival which takes place at the end of May and transforms Hay from a sleepy little town of second hand book shops into a mecca for lovers of the arts.  Thousands of visitors come evey year and it just seems to go on getting better and better. But there are other festivals during the year to fascinate the visitor. Ledbury hosts a two week poetry festival, Abbeydore offers music and Abergavenny fills the town centre with delicious food.

These are just a few of the more physical pastimes available in and around the Golden Valley.  We will be pleased to talk to you about other tourist attractions such as cheese making demonstrations, local museums and art galleries, farm visits and, of course, the local pubs.
