| |
"What a wonderful time we’ve had!! Good food, delightful rooms and service and excellent hosts”
“We have felt so well cared for and the food was out of this world – how can anyone come to stay and go elsewhere for a meal – sacrilege!”
“Sometimes, by chance, you arrive in the right place and, maybe, life changes just a bit. This is the right place. Wonderful hospitality, amazing food and true people.”
“Wonderful poetry, wonderful talk, wonderful kindness and wonderful
b &b”
“Thank you so much for letting me share your home. It has been more like staying with friends than as a b & b guest.” |

| Set in a quiet hamlet equidistant from the beautiful River Wye and the rugged walking country of The Black Mountains and Offa’s Dyke, Marises Barn lies in the heart of The Golden Valley. The Cathedral City of Hereford is 13 miles away, the quaint book town of Hay-on-Wye is just over 10 miles and the market towns of Abergavenny, Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye are easy travelling distances away. The countryside has no shortage of attractions for walkers, riders, climbers and canoeists alike and the scenery of the Brecon Beacons is spectacular at all times of the year. Herefordshire offers gardens, country houses, castles, half-timbered villages, ancient culture and historic churches. The area is renowned for cider and beef, and is increasingly making a name for its locally produced cheeses. It is also just over an hour's drive from the stylish centres of Cheltenham and Cardiff - there is something to cater for every taste, age and lifestyle. |

Marises Barn was converted from a traditional Herefordshire stone barn into a comfortable family home 20 years ago. The garden has recently been redesigned in a suitably tranquil and informal style with plenty of seating areas. The gardens lead down to an acre of paddock and orchard where traditional cider apple trees combine with eating apple, pear, plum and cherry trees.
We aim to provide our guests with a warm and friendly welcome, a comfortable stay and excellent meals. Our bread is home baked, and much of the produce we use is home grown, including eggs from our hens, herbs, fruit and vegetables from our garden and home made ice creams of different flavours. Evening meals are available with a little advance notice and our menu choices reflect the traditions of the region as well as more exotic flavours from other cultures. Dietary requirements can be catered for. If your choice is to eat out, then we can recommend several excellent pubs and restaurants within easy driving distance.
We can cater for horses in our paddock, cycles in our shed and we have a run and kennel for dogs (N.B. out of consideration for other guests with possible allergies we do not permit dogs in the guest bedrooms).
Marises Barn is open all year round and makes an ideal base for touring Herefordshire, the Forest of Dean, the Wye Valley and the Welsh Borders.
We regret that the property is not suitable for very young children.
Marises Barn is a non-smoking establishment. |

| Breakfast and Dinner |
| |
At Marises Barn we serve breakfast around our farmhouse table at a time of your choosing between 08:00 and 09:30. The table is always laid with a selection of juices, fresh fruits, yoghurts and cereals. We also offer a range of cooked items including local organic sausages and bacon and our own fresh eggs. Our dining room looks out onto the garden and also has a comfortable seating area where guests can read, play games or chat over a cup of tea or coffee.
We enjoy providing evening meals for our guests. We offer a 2 course dinner at £20.00 or 3 courses at £26.00, both with tea or coffee. All we ask is notification at least 48 hours in advance of when you would like to take dinner with us and, most of all, of any strong likes or dislikes or dietary requirements. We will always take account of the season and the current climate before selecting an appropriate menu for your stay. Paul is a qualified and experienced chef and we take great pride in the preparation of all our meals using fresh and local produce wherever possible. The positive comments in our guest book are most rewarding.
We are not a licensed establishment so please feel free to bring your own wine with you to enjoy with dinner. |
